Who is eligible? Only first time home buyers are eligible. A person is considered a first-time buyer if he/she has not had any ownership interest in a home in the past three years.

How does the tax credit work? Every dollar of a tax credit reduces income taxes by a dollar. Credits will be claimed on your 2009 tax return. If you owe less than $8000 in federal income tax the remainder of the credit will be returned to you in the form of a check.
